Sydney Tang is Chair Professor of Renal Medicine and the Yu Professor in Nephrology at HKUMed, where he is also Deputy Chairperson of the Department of Medicine. A senior clinician-scientist, he brings the translational and clinical-trial perspective that grounds Monexus’s therapeutic work in real patient need.
He holds MBBS, MD and PhD degrees from the University of Hong Kong, with nephrology and internal-medicine training at HKU, King’s College London, and the University of Washington. His research centres on IgA nephropathy, diabetic kidney disease, and chronic and acute kidney injury.
He has served as President of the Asian Pacific Society of Nephrology and a core author of the KDIGO 2020 glomerular-diseases guideline, and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology. His fellowships include FRCP (London, Edinburgh and Glasgow), FHKAM and FASN, and he was named a Distinguished Fellow of the European Renal Association in 2025.
