Prof. Anderson H.C. SHUM

Technology Advisor

Anderson Shum is a Chair Professor at City University of Hong Kong — jointly appointed in Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, and Materials Science & Engineering — where he serves as Vice-President (Research). He takes up the role of Vice-President / Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Hong Kong in August 2026. His work at the interface of soft matter, microfluidics and biomedicine underpins the science behind Monexus’s living-material platform.

He earned his Ph.D. and S.M. in Applied Physics at Harvard University, following a B.S.E. in Chemical Engineering (summa cum laude) from Princeton. His research pioneers all-aqueous systems, bio- and opto-microfluidics, and emulsion science — engineering how droplets, materials and living cells are structured and controlled.

A Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and President of the Hong Kong Young Academy of Sciences, he has received the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Prize from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a Croucher Senior Research Fellowship, with work spanning some 380 publications and over 11,000 citations.
