GlucoCure Hydrogel: a living gel that turns a wound's own sugar into healingWound care · preclinical

An early-stage wound dressing for chronic and diabetic wounds, designed to feed on the excess sugar that feeds infection.

GlucoCure (SyML-Gel): a symbiotic K. xylinus and S. cerevisiae living gel on a diabetic wound. S. cerevisiae ferments the wound’s excess glucose into ethanol, which K. xylinus converts into organic acids (antimicrobial, with a Bohr-effect oxygen release); the dressing depletes wound glucose and is designed to drive VEGF-mediated new vessels. A three-phase metabolic lifecycle runs from competition, to matrix self-growth, to M1→M2 immune remodeling.
How GlucoCure (SyML-Gel) works: a symbiotic K. xylinus–S. cerevisiae living gel depletes a diabetic wound’s excess glucose and converts it into antimicrobial organic acids, while it is designed to drive VEGF-mediated new vessels and M1→M2 immune remodeling across a three-phase metabolic lifecycle. Illustrative schematic; findings are unpublished preclinical data on file.

Chronic and diabetic wounds are hard to heal for a frustrating reason: they are flooded with excess glucose which is a feast for bacteria, so infection takes hold and the wound gets stuck, unable to close.

GlucoCure HydrogelA soft, water-rich gel that sits gently on a wound to keep it moist and protected. is a soft gel dressing with a twist. Living inside it are friendly, body-compatible microbes that treat all that surplus glucose as fuel. As they consume the very sugar that bacteria rely on, they continuously release natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory compounds that help keep the wound clean and calm.

Because the microbes keep working rather than releasing a single dose that quickly fades, the idea is a steady, lasting effect over the days a wound needs to recover.

In preclinical testing, GlucoCure has shown significantly faster wound closure in diabetic rat and porcine models, eradication of MRSA and P. aeruginosa with biofilm prevention, a shift toward anti-inflammatory (M1→M2) immune remodeling, and upregulated VEGF-mediated angiogenesis. This work was shaped by real-world clinical insight from Virtus Medical Group. GlucoCure is a research-stage product — not approved, not proven in humans, and nothing here is medical advice.

It turns the wound's own problem — excess sugar — into the fuel for its cure.

  • Starves infectionIts microbes eat the excess glucose that bacteria in a wound feed on.
  • Keeps workingInstead of one quick burst, it aims to release helpful compounds steadily over time.
  • Naturally derivedThe active compounds are made by living, body-friendly microbes rather than added as a chemical drug.
